Bowling is a fun game that is easy to play and takes little skill (if you don't care about your score, that is!!!). The annual NSAA Bowling Social only requires social skill, as it is the PERFECT event for property members and vendors. You cannot strike out at this event, so spare yourself and register to bowl in our annual Bowling Social.
Can't bowl??? Neither can we ... but we can give you some tips. You won't be outstanding overnight, but it could add another 10 or 20 pins on to your average after a month or two of practice.
Top NSAA Bowling Tips
Line up Your Feet - a lot of bowlers don't realize that foot placement is excessively important to how you throw your ball. Even moving your feet over one or two boards to the left or right can make the difference between a strike and a split. Try and keep your feet in the same spot on your first ball in each frame for a game to experiment with aiming and to develop a consistent shot.
Pick a Target on the Lane - professional bowlers don't aim at the pins, they aim at a spot on the lane. This is because bowling is a game of geometry, and if you put your ball in the right spot at the right speed. It will go where you wanted to go. It's simple physics. Thus, the combination of foot placement in picking a target on the Lane determines where the ball ends up. If you can consistently hit your target, you can more consistently make your spares and your strikes.
Get Your Own Shoes - bowling alley shoes are terrible, stinky and most of all look horrible. Even when they appear decent, they're not. Owning your own shoes will help you have a consistent slide and a consistent approach every time. Consistency is the key to scoring in bowling.
Get Your Own Ball - again, bowling alley equipment is not high quality equipment. Bowling eyeballs are made of plastic and not resin or urethane. So they are not able to curve the same way that modern bowling ball should. That means you aren't going to get the kind of consistent performance and skill level that you would from owning your own ball. Even if you're just starting out, you can buy a relatively cheap ball at a local sporting goods shop for under $100 that will serve you much better and have a custom fit your hand.
Join a League - joining the league is a great way to get a lot of practice and have a lot of fun. Often times, leagues can be a bit cheaper than regular bowling and you can make friends with other people who love to bowl. Bowling every week is the best way to improve your game because you will become more consistent, and you'll be in more different scenarios for picking up spares and understanding lane conditions.
Have Fun! - don't get too serious about the game of bowling. Bowling is a game that is meant to be played for fun and enjoyment. Competition is great, but its only great in the context of having fun doing what you enjoy.
If these tips don't help you improve your score, we suggest trying the NSAA Golf and Putting Classic or attend one of our NSAA Educational Dinners. Those are sure fire wins in our book!!!
